UX & UI // AAA OPEN WORLD MULTIPLAYER ONLINE VIDEO GAME
APB (All Points Bulletin) is a AAA PC based MMO game, first launched in July 2010. Sadly, the Developer 'Realtime Worlds' based in Dundee, Scotland, entered administration after investment was halted.. The IP was bought by 'Gamers First' and has since been re-launched as 'APB Reloaded'. I collaborated as a UI designer which was implemented using Unreal Editor. Within large game companies it's mostly a collaborative effort, however, following are some specific UI of which I took ownership.
APB Vault was designed as a searcheable online database, where gamers can access everything APB. This data system is accessible from within the game, and a stand-alone website (similar to World Of Warcraft armoury). Thus an easy-to-use and consistent UI was of high priority. Information is searchable through daily, weekly and monthly game scores, as-well-as stats for individual players, groups and clans, all game characters, factions and items such as weapons, vehicles, clothing, decals, rewards and achievements. Good communication between game designers, software engineers and experience design was essential.
Initiating re-design of the marketing website, consistent Art Direction and efficient management of continuous art asset production under tight marketing deadlines for print and digital media.
APB Knowledge Base existed as an online user help-desk, FAQ and support centre for gamers playing All Points Bulletin. A new UI was designed that complimented the overall game UI look-and-feel and online marketing efforts. Creative license was constrained as the design had to work with existing off-the-shelf CMS code.
